letgo is a great alternative to listing products on Craigslist, KSL Classifieds, or eBay.
But the app has a screen that needs replaced or improved: the Notifications screen.
To me, these notification are annoying and the screen doesn’t solve a real user problem.
It shows when a user has favorited your product. But favoriting your product doesn’t seem to matter much. As a seller, I don’t care much that someone has favorited my product. If they really liked it, they’d buy it, right? But I’ve never had someone favorite my product and then later buy it. Also, I don’t want to “Check out their profile”.
It seems that letgo is using this screen as a way to increase engagement. Users receive a notification each time someone favorites their product, some opening the app to check who and what.
I recognize that the “favorite” functionality serves a purpose. It gives buyers a way to tag products that they like for future reference, but as a seller, it doesn’t help me much.
But it could.
A Price Reduced screen
letgo should replace the Notification screen with a “Price Reduced” screen. This would likely:
1. Help sellers sell their stuff
2. Increase user engagement
3. Increase retention
4. Further differenciate letgo from the competition
A new Price Reduced screen would show products that were recently reduced in price. Second to the home screen, I anticipate this would be the second-most viewed screen in the app.
Along with the new screen, an addition to the “favorite” functionality could be that buyers who have favorited a product would receive a notification when the price of that product is reduced.
A Price Reduced screen could really help sellers sell their stuff. But sometimes they get their prices wrong. Currently, changing the price doesn’t “bump” their product to the top, so it just sits buried and unsold.
Take me for example. I currently have 39 things listed for sale on letgo. I want to sell all of that stuff! There is a chance that someone will search for my specific items, but it’s likely that I just overpriced them. I received interest in several items when I first listed them, because they showed up on the Home screen, but after that, the interest has declined to almost zero. If I reduce the price, shoppers will still have to search for the specific item in order to see it. I don’t want to delete and relist at a lower price because that is a pain. But I’d be willing to lower the price a little to get it sold.
How the Price Reduced screen could work
The Price Reduced screen could work like this:
Sellers can edit their items and reduce the price, and all price reductions that meet certain criteria would appear on the Price Reduced screen.
For items $1- $24, a price reduction of $1 or more will show up in the Price Reduced screen. For items $25 – $50, a price reduction of $5 or more will show up in the Price Reduced screen. For items $51+, a price reduction of $10 or more will show up in the Price Reduced screen.
Buyers would receive a notification when the price is reduced on an item they’ve favorited.
A limit to the number of price reductions made to one product could be implemented to reduce abuse by sellers who set prices high at first and reduce the price often to get their product to appear at the top of the Price Reduced screen.
. . .
Do you have other ideas for the Price Reduced or Notification screens? Feel free to share your idea below.
I so agree im trying to gind a way to turn off those types if notifications!
I don’t want any of the notifications. I click on all kinds of items just to find out what they are and now it sends me 50 notifications a day of price drops. Most of this stuff I don’t have any interest in but had to click on the link to look at the pic to see what the item is and now I get notifications about them. U need a way to turn notifications on and off. I don’t care if the items are cheaper that’s wat negotiation is for I kno wat I’m willing to pay now ask the seller if there willing to take that if not then oh well .
Right on spot !!!
If it’s OK for someone to favorite something Im selling ,then I get something I like to call a big fat tease, why can’t we message the person who just loves all my different things I’m actually trying to sell
Exactly what I have been thinking. Otherwise seeing people who have favorited my listings is just a continuing waste of my valuable time.
Favorite is not very smart. Why is it needed. I want to sell not have people like my stuff. Seems like just another waist of time
I think that is an excellent and valid suggesrion!
Where can I view my favorite items that I have marked?
This is what i am also trying ro find out. How do we follow up on our “LIKES” if we can’t find them?
I have had Letgo now for a month. The notifications screen plus people favoriting your listing is so annoying and completely useless. I have never done it to someone else and will. I will do so when i hand you cash for it.
Yes I would like them to get rid of that notification I don’t care if someone like my product . All I know I have to go and take it off my phone ?
I agree completely. It’s quite annoying.
I don’t care if you favorite it, just buy it! Lol
I have many items for sale that have been favorited and still have yet to see anything sell on this site and I have reduced some of my prices to half. And so many people going to buy, going to meet… never do. I sold one item on there but wasn’t thru letgo.
I Absolutely agree and feel like why am I bothering to show my stuff on letgo I want to show that it’s been reduced in price also I may sell one thing for $40 and two of the same thing for $70 but there’s no way to show that on the one picture
The $1.99 fee to bump a seller’s item should be eliminated, especially since the time frame allotted is extremely limited. The seller should be permitted to bump their items at least once per week, allowing these items up to the front of the line.
i understand why the $1.99 bump fee exists, as i have never personally used it i do the annoying work around. i also think that a RENEW (like craigslist does) every so often would be good. however, i think that if that bump fee were to be dropped to say .25 cents if bumped weekly i would prob use that. for those of us that actually have more than a few items it would be worth it to me. I have been at the classified side hustle for some time now (give or take a few breaks during that time) and regardless of the extra work, to be successful at it the manual delete and relist is essential.
Is there a way to message or email someone who has ‘favorited’ your items/s? The same person favored 3 items I am selling and I would like to send a message to see if they are still interested and let them know the price is negotiable and/or can be bundled.
As far as I can tell, no, there is not a way to do that.
You can contact someone who has favorites your items if they also have items posted for sale. Just go their item for sale and contact them through there.
This is EXACTLY why i was searching for an answer to the same question!
I agree with the above comments. Get rid of the favorited tgat people click on. I think i got a sale but only someone has favorited something im trying to sell. Not a good idea.
working the FAVORED notification are pesky to me too. i do contact those that favored my items with a thank you, an invite to meet and make a purchase, or if not that then please help me understand why its a favorite but not a purchase. i have had some success in follow up purchases this way. ITS WORK and to ease the pain of it i have cut and paste blurbs, replies, comments, etc for many different things. i do this on FB sales areas as well.
I agree as well. There should be a way to speak to the person who has “favorited” (which quite frankly is not a word) an item to see if there is any real interest and possibly begin bargaining from there is the seller and buyer wish to…..
Favorited isn’t a real word. Lol
Personally besides being hit so many times daily over Notification of a price reduction. grrrrr. I get a bit twisted with the lack of details and computer wild guesses as to what an item is. WOW so messed up. But back to my point, when an item is listed and there is no price just the word Negotiable I smell trouble. How do you start a haggle with no start point? By Insulting a seller with a ridiculous low ball price, not Cool. I just think there should be a reasonable starting price which will get these types of sales moving. I Think most lie stagnant because of what I just pointed out. Thx for the opp to share
Letgo should hire you! They should stop automatically sending “I’m interested” notifications when you look at an item.
I am new to Letgo and i come across so many buyers that i can only presume that their accounts are FAKE. They keep asking if the item is available and once you reply back you never hear again from them. I kid you not 10 out of 10 at times, maybe i get 1 legit buyer after 30 messages with no replies. I own a business so i answer right away, maybe 10 seconds after the message get to me… its so frustrating
I am new to the app and I have been getting the same things. I was so excited when all these people started messaging me about my items but I only hear back from maybe 1 out of every 10 people who message me. Do people really have success using this app? I am getting to the point of giving up on it because I am just getting scams. Every single one is the same word for word except a few minor details. They are all out of town but can send a check and once I put it in my bank account and it clears they will send movers to pick up my items. They ask for all my personal info to send me a check. They always offer extra money for holding it or to pay the movers. Like yeah OK you are gonna send a stranger an extra $1000 to pay your movers. Once I reply back that I only accept cash I never hear from them again. I really want to sell my stuff. I wish there was a reliable way without getting so many scam replies.
That is an age old scam. What happens is they say they’ll send a certified or cashiers check and then send someone to pick up the item once the check clears. Except that the check is fake and doesn’t clear and they get away with your info and possibly bank info. So dumb.
Does anyone know how to make suggestions to Letgo?? Because all of this is great…but, if they don’t fix some things then it is all moot……
1.) You need to be able to see the price and where it is on the picture of the item.
It is much too labor intensive to have to open each item every time you look at it…
2.) You need to be able to “favorite” the item from the front, like you can on Craigslist.
So many of the pictures look the same (I’m talking televisions, etc) and you don’t know if you have seen it unless you open and look. Also, it’s 2018, for [goodness] sake, we should be able to, after we look at something, write a little note on it for our own purposes….like what the dimensions, smart tv or not…blah, blah, blah, because sometimes people don’t fill out the descriptions completely.
3.) And, No, the sellers shouldn’t get an alert any time that someone favorites their item.
The app needs some work….but, until that happens, I will continue to “Favorite” every item for a couple of reasons….. 1.) Then I know that I have looked at it…. 2.) I find that sometimes that is the only way to see some of the older comparable items…sometimes I find exactly what I want after someone buys something that I have marked “Favorite” because the app suggests comparable things that have been listed for over a month…
4.) I am sure I have more…..but, I have things to do……thanks for listening!!
**AGAIN, CAN WE FIND SOME WAY TO CONTACT THE MAKERS….SO WE DON’T HAVE TO COMPLAIN….
When I first got on the site I had no idea what the favoriting was all about, and the help screens were not particularly helpfull, I agree with the folks who think they are annoying, and the person should just buy the item if they like it.
When I click to “favorite “ an item, it automatically sends one of those “I like it. Is it still available?” messages. I do not click to let the seller know. How can I put something in a favorite list without Letgo sending a message on my behalf?
I have had buyers ask how they can view all of my items for sale. How might that happen?
Favorited items ARE notified of price changes, just as items favorited that sell are also noticed to those who favorited a listing.
It IS odd that sellers are told when items are favorited, because there is no way to contact the potential buyer unless they are also listing items for sale, and you contact them THRU their ad.
From reviewing this blog, I think I will quit looking at profiles that favorite my listings, because my clicking gives letgo sonething that I do not benefit from. I suggest all listers do the same
I’ve heard all sorts of comments from buyers or potential buyers about why they “FAVORITE” my items. I have been told that once they have more money to spend they want to come back and review those items for possible later purchase. Is there not a way to set up this function in a much easier way?
As a buyer, I use the “Favorite” function to mark things I am interested in, but feel are somewhat over priced with hopes the seller(s) will get out of the clouds and be reasonable. But apparently there is no way to access just those items you favorited. You have to waste time scrolling through all the listings again to find the items you marked. This is a hassle and should be fixed by the anonymous owners of letgo.
How to message people who favorited your items that you are interested in selling? Offer up please get back with advice or support system
When I am browsing and see an item I like I click on it to get more information but when I use the back arrow after viewing the item, it does not take me back to the browsing location I left but takes me back to the top of the list and I have to scroll down to find the location I left
I have turned off almost all notifications by Letgo in the settings. They are annoying. My phone was constantly alerting. A price reduction page would be great. But what I would find more helpful is a way to message people who like items. I have continually likes but WHAT IS THEIR PURPOSE? There should be an in app way to make an offer to people who like items, whether it is directly or via the app in the manner Mecari sends likers your offers. I noticed that some likers are not sellers, so I’m not sure tbey realize you cannot make them an offer—Ty
